Host academy FAQ

Common questions

What time should I arrive?
Doors open at 6:15 p.m. for check-in. The session runs 6:30–8:00 p.m. Central. Arriving early gives you time to sign in, change, and meet the organizer before the safety briefing.
What should I wear?
A clean, fully dried gi with a rashguard or athletic shirt and compression shorts underneath. Sandals or slides for off-mat areas. Trimmed nails, no jewelry, and a mouthguard is strongly recommended for live rounds.
Do I need my own gi?
Yes — this is a gi session. Loaner gis are available by advance request, subject to size and availability. Request one when you reserve so we can check availability and sizing.
Is there parking?
Yes. Free parking is available in the lot around the building, with additional spaces along the sides of the complex if the front lot is full.
What if I have never trained before?
Beginners are welcome. You will get your own positional lane with coach-directed drilling, and live rounds are optional with coach clearance.
Can I bring my son?
Sons 13–17 are welcome when the host academy approves youth participation for that session. A parent or legal guardian must register them, complete all required documents, and remain on site.
What waivers do I need?
You must complete both the Train My Hands for War release and the host academy release before stepping on the mat. Both are linked on the Mat Ready page and every event page.
Can I drop in without reserving?
We strongly recommend reserving so we can plan mat space, lane assignments, and loaner gi availability. Walk-ins may be turned away if the session is at capacity.

House rules

Guests train by their standards

Before you step on

The combined release must be signed — one form covers us and the academy. No shoes on the mat, no jewelry, clean gi, trimmed nails, and covered skin infections stay off the floor.

Respect the floor

Their coaches and members set the tone on any night that is not ours. If you want more than one Friday a month, ask them about a trial — that is the point of this page.
