About

About Train My Hands for War

Train My Hands for War is a free monthly Christian Jiu-Jitsu fellowship where men and sons 13+ develop practical skill, disciplined self-control, and durable brotherhood under Christ—so they can serve, protect, and pursue peace.

Manifesto

The mats tell the truth

Titles fade, ego gets exposed, and every man learns to breathe, listen, and begin again. We come under one Lord and train as brothers. Our hands learn skill; our hearts learn restraint. We tap early. We help one another up. We grow stronger not to dominate, but to serve, protect, and make peace. Our struggle is not against flesh and blood. The Lord is our Rock, discipline is our practice, and brotherhood is our guard. One Friday, one round, and one percent at a time—we train the body, sharpen character, and carry that strength home.

  • Hands lifted in prayer.
  • Hands taped for training.
  • Hands open in service.
  • Hands extended to help a brother up.

The seal

What the mark means

  • Taped shaka hand — brotherhood, welcome, grappling culture.
  • Three wrapped fingers — Faith, Fellowship, Fortitude.
  • Cross in the wrist tape — faith governs the hand.
  • Circular academy form — tradition, continuity, team.
  • Psalm 144:1 — our scriptural anchor.

What we are

  • A free monthly guided 90-minute gathering.
  • Prayer, movement preparation, takedown concepts, ground technique, positional work, and controlled rolling.
  • Cross-academy and beginner-welcoming.
  • A bridge into consistent BJJ training and Christian brotherhood.

What we are not

  • Not a replacement for regular academy membership or qualified instruction.
  • Not a competition team or belt-promotion body.
  • Not an unrestricted open mat.
  • Not a place for rank entitlement, ego contests, spontaneous guest teaching, or unsafe submissions.
  • Not an owner or operator of 3 Embers Grappling Academy. We are hosted there.

Organizers

Felipe Soares and Eric Kelley organize the gathering, handle check-in and safety logistics, and lead prayer. We do not publish training credentials, rank, or instructor titles that have not been confirmed in writing. Reach either organizer at meetmeonthemats@trainmyhandsforwar.com.

Felipe Soares

Organizer and host liaison

Felipe organizes the monthly gathering, coordinates with the host academy, and leads the opening prayer and the mat code briefing before every session.

Eric Kelley

Organizer and check-in lead

Eric runs check-in, verifies both waivers and the hygiene checklist, pairs newcomers with experienced partners, and keeps the session's safety standards enforced.
